A beginners guide to Amethyst

Updated: Jan 12

What is an Amethyst Crystal?

An amethyst crystal is a type of quartz crystal that has been coloured by inclusions of manganese. The colour of these crystals ranges from pale lilac to deep purple, with shades in between. Amethyst is found all over the world and has been used for thousands of years as jewellery and decoration. Amethyst crystals are typically found inside geodes--a hollow rock with a hard outer shell containing small minerals inside it--or as individual crystals growing on the sides or bottoms of caves where there's plenty of moisture (and therefore minerals). Amethyst can also be artificially grown in laboratories using hydrothermal synthesis (where water is heated under pressure), but this process doesn't create natural-looking shapes like those found in naturally occurring amethysts do!

Amethyst Crystal Benefits

Amethyst crystals are known for their healing properties. They're a great addition to any crystal collection, and can be used in many ways. Amethyst is a powerful stone that helps you become more aware of your own spiritual nature by helping you connect with your higher self, angels and spirit guides. It also enhances psychic powers such as clairvoyance, telepathy and precognition. Amethyst is also known for its ability to balance the mind and body by calming nerves while increasing focus during meditation or prayer sessions. The energy of this crystal has been shown to reduce stress levels while improving overall mental clarity so it's no wonder why amethyst is one of my favourite stones! It's important when using amethyst for any purpose (whether it's for healing physical ailments or simply just relaxing) that you cleanse before each use by holding under running water until all dirt particles have been washed away then place it back into a storage container until needed again later down the road."

Types of Amethyst Crystals

There are many types of amethyst crystals. Some are shaped like pyramids, others like cubes or triangles. The sizes vary from small to large, and the colour can be anywhere from deep purple to light pinkish-purple. Amethyst comes in many varieties:

  • Amethyst geode - this is a large crystal with an outer shell made up of smaller crystals that look like they're growing out of the main one (like a honeycomb). It's sometimes called "amethyst rock" because it looks like a rock when you first see it but has lots of tiny crystals inside!

  • Amethyst cluster - this is just a bunch of smaller amethysts grouped together into one big piece; they're usually sold as necklaces or bracelets so people can wear them around their necks/wrists!

  • Ametrine - this type combines both purple and yellow tones together into one stone; it's named after its two parent minerals: amethyst + citrine (yellow quartz). You might have seen this kind before because some people think it looks really pretty when paired with diamonds!

How to Care for an Amethyst Crystal

To care for your amethyst crystal, you should clean it regularly. You can use a soft cloth to wipe off any dust that may have accumulated on the surface of your stone. If there is dirt or oil on the stone, then you can use warm water and mild soap to clean it off. To store your crystal in an appropriate place where no one will knock into it or drop anything on top of it (especially not heavy items). Amethyst crystals should be kept away from direct sunlight because this could cause damage over time; instead, keep them in indirect light if possible--for example, near a window with shades drawn down so that only indirect sunlight comes through onto your crystals' surfaces! Finally: charging! Amethyst crystals are powerful stones that can help bring positive energy into our lives when used properly--but they also need some love too! Charging involves holding an intention while meditating with an amethyst crystal nearby (or even touching its surface), so think about what kind of intention would benefit both yourself and others around you before starting this process...

Amethyst Crystal Meditation

Amethyst is a stone that can be used for meditation. Meditating with amethyst crystals has many benefits, including:

  • Helps to calm the mind and body

  • Increases focus and concentration

  • Promotes relaxation and peace of mind

Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight, legs crossed or outstretched on the floor with your hands resting in your lap or palms facing upwards (palms up). Close your eyes and take several deep breaths through your nose while focusing on how it feels when you breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. If thoughts come into mind during this process simply acknowledge them and then let them go without judging yourself for having them at all! After about 5 minutes of breathing slowly begin counting down from 20-1 with each number being accompanied by an exhale until reaching zero where there is no more breath left inside of you but instead just silence...this silence represents nothingness which is where we will now go within ourselves using our imaginations!

Amethyst Crystal Jewelry

When you're ready to buy amethyst crystal jewellery, there are a few things you should look for. First of all, consider the type of jewellery you want. Are you looking for earrings? Necklaces? Bracelets? Each piece has its own unique style and purpose--and they can all be worn in different ways! If this is your first time buying amethyst crystal jewellery, it's best not to go overboard with too many pieces at once: just start off with one or two items until you get used to wearing them regularly before adding more into your collection. Be sure that whatever type of stone(s) are used in making the piece is genuine amethyst; otherwise, it won't have any effect on your body!

Amethyst Crystal Healing

Amethyst is a beautiful stone, but it's also one of the most powerful crystals for healing. Amethyst has been used for centuries as an aid in physical and emotional healing, especially when it comes to stress relief and calming anxiety. Amethyst crystals have been used to treat insomnia, headaches, migraines and other types of pain (such as menstrual cramps). Amethyst crystals can be worn directly against your skin or placed under your pillow while sleeping so they can work their magic while you rest peacefully at night! If you're looking for something more permanent than wearing a crystal necklace every day (which is totally fine by me), then consider placing an amethyst cluster somewhere around your home where everyone will see it often: maybe near the front door so anyone entering knows what kind of energy vibes await inside? Or maybe even over top one side table lamp so there's always something pretty lighting up those late night study sessions...
